Bethesda is famous for releasing buggy games. Fallout 4, a Company’s latest release, is a complete mess. It crashes on and on when you install it on Windows 7, 8 and 10. And that’s a niggling concern. But, luckily, we’ve managed to find solutions for you.
The first thing that you should do to play game without crashes and mighty lags is to fix registry errors. There are various kinds of registry cleaner software programs available on the web.
Things you need before fixing the crash
- Downloading and installing important updates is very important. Why? Most games do not work if you have an obsolete OS.
- Remember: Update your drivers (audio/video, storage controller, chipset drivers) and stay up to date.
- You can download all remaining drivers from your motherboard manufacturer’s website. Just make sure that you punch in the correct model name.
- Update your DirectX files given in Microsoft’s website. Here’s a link to download.
- Update Microsoft .NET Framework 4 as well.
If you don't have dxcpl.exe, here's the download link for it. Now this is what i forgot to include at the video, does your Fallout. It helps with the in-game performance a lot, but also fixes potential crashes of Fallout 4! Try running the game in windowed mode. Players running the game in borderless window mode reported improvements and crashes stopped from occurring, so it’s worth a try! How to fix no mouse problems. The most encountered problem is Fallout 4 Crash, players reported that their game crashes randomly when they are playing or when they try to start the game. Other Fallout 4 errors are Lag, Low FPS, Stuttering. Below you can see a list of these issues of the game and also solutions and workaround on how to fix them and play the game. I've tried it, messing with iPresentInterval= 0/1/2 and iFPSClamp=61, using NVIDIA Inspector to lock fps, to 55/58/60. With IPresentInterval set to 1 or 2 the game DOES NOT crash but is absolutely unplayable at 20-40 fps and if it is set to 0 the game crashes no matter if the fps is locked or not.
And now move to the Game:

Fixing it is more or less the same on all versions of Windows. Make sure that you’ve checked each and every above-mentioned option. Checked? Now follow these simple steps.

- Go to My Games.
- Click on Fallout 4.
- You will be able to see a file titled ‘Fallout4Prefs.ini’ (Keep your eyes on the extension name .ini).
- Open it in a Notepad (if it’s not in Notepad).
- If you can’t open it in notepad, right click on it and click on “Open With”.
- From the next drop down menu, choose notepad or “Select a program from the list”.
- Choose Notepad.
- Now you’ll have to make these changes.
- bMaximizeWindow=0 (if you see any other number besides ‘0’, change it to ‘0’).
- bBorderless=1 (if you see any other number besides ‘1’, change it to ‘1’).
- bFull Screen=0 (if you see any other number besides ‘0’, change it to ‘0’).
- iSize H=1080 and iSize W=1920 (This is the resolution of your monitor. If your screen has a higher resolution, you can switch to its native resolution).
- Most issues are resolved by switching your game from Fullscreen to Borderless (this fix was also used by several PC gamers playing Mad Max).

But we’ve got an alternative for you. Beware: More crashes occur because of cranking up video settings that your system cannot handle.
Try a trial-and-error method by switching each and every setting to see which one your system can handle. Furthermore, enable the Borderless option so that you can be ensured that your game does not crash.
